So, What Exactly
Is It?

Stone-coated steel is a roofing system made from formed steel panels finished with a textured stone-coated surface. The panels are shaped to recreate familiar roofing styles like Spanish tile, wood shake and dimensional shingles.

Underneath that traditional appearance is a lightweight steel roofing system designed for long-term performance, impact resistance and demanding weather.

In simple terms: it gives you the look of traditional roofing materials without giving up the strength and lightweight performance of steel.

◎

Low Maintenance

The steel-based system is designed for long-term performance with relatively minimal maintenance compared with many traditional roofing materials.

☀

Energy-Efficient Options

Above-sheathing ventilation and select cool-roof colors can help reduce heat transfer through the roof assembly and into the attic.

Performance depends on the selected profile, complete roof assembly, approved installation method, property location and design requirements. Gravity Roofing verifies the appropriate system for each project.

Energy-Efficient By Design

Help Keep More Florida Heat Out.

Florida roofs absorb heat for hours every day. Depending on the selected system, stone-coated steel can use above-sheathing ventilation to create airflow between portions of the roofing system and the roof deck.

Selected cool-roof colors can also improve solar reflectance, giving homeowners another way to consider energy performance when choosing a roof.

1
Sun Heats the Roof Surface Florida sunlight warms the exterior roofing material throughout the day.
2
Airspace Helps Manage Heat Transfer Above-sheathing ventilation can create airflow beneath portions of the roofing system.
3
Warm Air Moves Toward the Ridge Air movement can help reduce the amount of heat transferred toward the attic space.
4
Cool-Roof Colors Add Another Option Selected colors are designed with solar-reflective performance in mind.
Actual roof and attic temperatures, energy use and potential savings vary by home, insulation, ventilation, roof design, installation method, weather and selected product.

Homeowner Questions Answered

Stone-Coated Steel FAQ

What is stone-coated steel roofing?
Stone-coated steel uses formed steel roofing panels with a textured stone-coated finish. The panels are shaped to reproduce familiar roofing styles such as Spanish tile, wood shake and shingles while retaining the lightweight strength of steel.
Does stone-coated steel look like a normal metal roof?
Not necessarily. Unified Steel is specifically designed to create traditional-looking roof profiles. Gravity Roofing offers tile, shake and shingle-inspired options rather than only the long vertical panels many homeowners associate with metal roofing.
What Unified Steel profiles does Gravity Roofing offer?
Our current stone-coated steel options include Barrel-Vault Tile, Pacific Tile, Pine-Crest Shake, Cottage Shingle and Granite-Ridge Shingle. Product and color availability can change, so final selections are confirmed for each project.
Is stone-coated steel suitable for Florida weather?
Unified Steel offers roof assemblies designed for demanding wind, hail and fire performance. The appropriate profile, approval, attachment method and design requirements must be confirmed for the specific property.
Is stone-coated steel impact resistant?
Unified Steel profiles carry Class 4 hail impact ratings. Selected systems have also been tested for Very Severe Hail performance. Impact resistance does not mean a roof is impossible to damage, but it indicates that the product has met a demanding testing standard.
How heavy is stone-coated steel?
The system weighs approximately 1.5 pounds per square foot, making it a significantly lighter roof covering than traditional concrete tile while still offering tile-style profiles.
Can stone-coated steel help with energy efficiency?
Depending on the selected system, above-sheathing ventilation and cool-roof-rated color options can help reduce heat transfer through the roof assembly. Actual performance varies by home, insulation, ventilation, roof design and weather conditions.
What warranty comes with Unified Steel roofing?
Unified Steel stone-coated roofing is offered with a 50-year limited transferable manufacturer warranty. Warranty requirements, coverage and exclusions apply, and Gravity Roofing will review the applicable warranty information with you.
Will the colors on my screen look exactly like the installed roof?
No digital display can reproduce roofing colors perfectly. Monitor settings, lighting and photography can all change how a color appears. We recommend making the final choice from current physical manufacturer samples.
